Planetary Ball Mill – FAQ
Our planetary ball mill features oil-sealed silent technology. Unlike traditional mills with gear dry grinding and no lubrication, our design includes a sealed oil chamber under the main plate. This keeps the plate immersed in lubricant, reducing noise and wear. Lubrication extends gear life and ensures stable, long-term operation.
We offer four main materials for ball mill jars:
- Ceramic (Alumina, Zirconia)
- Metal (Stainless Steel, Tungsten Carbide)
- Polymer (Nylon, Polyurethane, PTFE)
- Mineral (Agate)
The planetary ball mill has four jars mounted on a single turntable. As the turntable rotates, the jars orbit around the axis while spinning on their own axes. This planetary motion causes the grinding balls to collide, grind, and mix samples.
Planetary ball mills are widely used in geology, mining, metallurgy, electronics, construction materials, ceramics, chemicals, light industry, medicine, beauty, and environmental protection. Applications include electronic ceramics, structural ceramics, magnetic materials, lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, catalysts, phosphors, rare-earth polishing powders, and more.
We recommend the YXQM-4L planetary ball mill with alumina or zirconia jars and zirconia grinding balls. This setup offers high performance and cost-efficiency.
For laboratory models with jars up to 8L, use 220V (standard household power). For jars over 12L, use 380V three-phase power.
For temperature-sensitive materials, non-metallic jars are recommended. High temperatures mainly come from grinding balls. Agate balls generate the least heat and can be paired with any jar material. If a strict temperature limit of 30°C is required, choose agate jars and agate balls.
Agate is a natural mineral with silicon dioxide as its main component. It offers zero contamination, excellent heat dissipation, and is ideal for maintaining constant temperatures. Agate jars are preferred in environmental testing due to their purity and minimal contamination.
Polyurethane jars are highly elastic with a smooth surface, making them ideal for nano powder milling and mixing. They prevent sticking and are highly durable with minimal wear. Even slight wear can be removed in subsequent thermal treatments.
Our nylon jars are made from high-grade MC nylon, known for its durability. They resist organic solvents, high temperatures, oil, and wear. Lightweight and easy to clean, they offer the best cost-performance ratio among materials and are our most popular choice.
